Non-crossing Tree Realizations of Ordered Degree Sequences
We investigate the enumeration of non-crossing tree realizations of integer sequences, and we consider a special case in four parameters, that can be seen as a four-dimensional tetrahedron that generalizes Pascal’s triangle and the Catalan numbers. This work is motivated by the study of ambiguities in categorial grammars.
متن کاملSteiner tree packing revisited
The Steiner tree packing problem (STPP) in graphs is a long studied problem in combinatorial optimization. In contrast to many other problems, where there have been tremendous advances in practical problem solving, STPP remains very difficult. Most heuristics schemes are ineffective and even finding feasible solutions is already NP-hard. What makes this problem special is that in order to reach...
متن کاملPacking of Graphic Sequences
Let π1 and π2 be graphic n-tuples, with π1 = (d (1) 1 , . . . , d (1) n ) and π2 = (d (2) 1 , . . . , d (2) n ) (they need not be monotone). We say that π1 and π2 pack if there exist edge-disjoint graphs G1 and G2 with vertex set {v1, . . . , vn} such that the degrees of vi in G1 and G2 are d (1) i and d (2) i , respectively. We prove that two graphic n-tuples pack if ∆ ≤ √ 2δn− (δ−1), where ∆ ...
متن کاملThe Tree of Trees: on methods for finding all non-isomorphic tree-realizations of degree sequences
A degree sequence for a graph is a list of positive integers, one for every vertex, where each integer corresponds to the number of neighbors of that vertex. It is possible to create sequences that have no corresponding graphs, as well as sequences that correspond to multiple distinct (i.e., non-isomorphic) graphs. A graph that corresponds to a given degree sequence is called a realization of t...
متن کاملThe Planar Tree Packing Theorem
Packing graphs is a combinatorial problem where several given graphs are being mapped into a common host graph such that every edge is used at most once. In the planar tree packing problem we are given two trees T1 and T2 on n vertices and have to find a planar graph on n vertices that is the edge-disjoint union of T1 and T2. A clear exception that must be made is the star which cannot be packe...
